First Mock-Ups
From the Latest Working Critique (W 11/13/12)
What is Working:
-the material & color are working because they 1] emphasize the folds of the accordion 2] support the ying/yang framework 3] paper is conducive to folding, glueing, drawing, etc.
What is Not Working:
-star shape (created by size, proximity, & amount of folds) has too much emphasis and it resinating as a geometric circular shape, rather than an organic one
-these pointed edges & the star form that they create are detracting from the desired circular form because they are have too much depth
Options:
-research more methods of accordion folding to see how I can soften or round edges
-look for more organic, folded, circular forms

New Mock-Up 11/20/13
|
What I Did:
-I made a mock-up with my new construction method -xeroxed magazine clippings to place on the mock-up -experimented with placement & overlapping to see how I can make the best transitions What is Working: -I found a unifying factor through color -found that my subject matter has two reoccurring colors other than B&W: blue and yellow -overlapping allows for transitions: at this point the first 4 panels are the strongest because of this -the xerox copies of the magazine pieces unify w/ the rest of the subject matter on the outside better because they are matte, rather than shiny What is Not Working: -the construction did not go as easily as planned-the form had to be taped together -the edges that stick out of the form do not lay as they should: folding and shaping needs to be solidified -magazine images were too large for my mock-up, so the placement of the subject matter is not exact -mock-up was too small in relation to what the actual size will be-so placement, transitions, text, and exact measurements need to be perfected |
